💡 Community Spotlight - @weidai6502 The Cloudflare outage today disturbed our rhythm, yet we'll never miss an opportunity to celebrate our community, and today it's Koitsu who's always been there as an eco guide and defender of the Discord realm to say the least. So let's get to know the person behind the account👇
1⃣ How did you first hear about @THORChain, and what initially drew you to stake your first deposit? " @dogecoin launched in December 2013. It was my first venture into cryptocurrency: I had no idea what I was doing, I didn't understand wallets, seed phrases, blockchain networks, mining pools, and so on. I stopped mining DOGE after 1 month due to an extravagant electricity bill. DOGE was worth nothing for the next 8 years, by which point I'd long since deleted my Dogecoin Core installation (read: wallet). In early 2021 whilst going through some PC backups, I found a file named "dgcoin.rar" dated August 2016 in a directory that had no relevancy to crypto. This RAR file contained my old crypto mining directory. Within it was a file: "qtdata\wallet.dat". Nah, it couldn't be, could it? I reinstalled Dogecoin Core (from 2021), restored the file, and let the blockchain sync. After a few hours, I had access to my wallet -- and all my mined DOGE from 8 years prior. Given that I'd considered the coins long gone, I asked myself: what can I do with these now? Can I stake them? Is there some way to earn passive yield on them, even if small? I scoured the Internet to no avail. There weren't any options for DOGE. But at two different points I saw mention of this thing called "THORChain". There was info on it, but none of it was simple/clear to me. I once again felt like a "newbie" in crypto. I wondered: what was THORChain? Is it even relevant to what I'm trying to do with my DOGE? What is BEPSwap? What is THORSwap? Is it the same thing as THORChain? And why the fixation with Norse gods?! With curiosity piqued I joined the THORSwap Discord in mid-2021. The hot topics at the time were the SCCN/MCCN debacle, the Bifrost ETH exploit, and the THORChain router exploit. I lurked for months; all I did was read chat and clicked links. Slowly I began to figure THORChain and THORSwap. Dogecoin support didn't yet exist, but was to be added soon. At some point I joined the THORChain Dev Discord as well, but can't remember when. THORChain launched the DOGE LP in January 2022, and the pool was pre-funded. I didn't understand LPs particularly well, but did understand my DOGE was "paired" with RUNE price-ratio-wise. So I took the plunge: I deposited my DOGE asymmetrically in early February 2022."
